Adding a Blogger sitemap to Google

To make it easy for Google to index your pages in their search, it’s important to upload a sitemap to Google’s Webmaster tools. With Blogger, this is quite easy to do because you can use your atom feed as a sitemap. Note – before you can add your sitemap on Google, you’ll need to activate your Webmaster Tools account.

Once you have a Webmaster account, follow these steps to add your sitemap:

  1. Find the URL for your atom feed by going to your blog and clicking the ‘Posts (Atom)’ link.
  2. Take the portion of the link that comes after your main domain name and copy it. For example – my atom feed locations is www.stgermaine.ca/feeds/posts/default, so I would copy – feeds/posts/default.
  3. From your Webmaster Tools dashboard, select the blog you want to add a sitemap to.
  4. In the overview page that you land on, click on sitemaps in the left hand column.
  5. go back to your Google Webmaster Tools and paste the feed extension into the “submit sitemap” box.
  6. Click submit sitemap.

Once this is complete, it may take Google some time to update your information, but once they do, your pages will be much easier for them to crawl and index your site.
