With MSN, you can create ads that cost as little as 5 cents a visit. You can also control the the amount you are willing to spend daily or monthly so testing an ad campaign is inexpensive.

Here’s how you can start advertising with Bing:

1.) Sign up with Microsoft Adcenter (there is a one time, 5 dollar fee for signing up with them)

2.) Once logged in to your account, click the Create Campaign link as shown in red below:

5.) in the Keywords section, you’ll select the keywords you want to bid on.

Example: I might choose to bid on ‘Social media’ for my stgermaine site or ‘jobs’ for my BCjobs.ca site.

You can also use the keyword research tool provided by the adcenter to find quality keywords to bid on.

You can use long tail keywords for Bing. See this exurp from Search Engine Land

    Expanded long tail opportunities

The document clarifies that more than 300 factors are used in determining this categorization and that what categories appear is entity-dependent. In other words, if you search for [buffy the vampire slayer], you may see a category for “wallpaper” because lots of people search for Buffy wallpaper, but you might see categories for “episodes” and “characters” because Microsoft has identified “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as a TV show.

Microsoft says that this new way of organizing results provides new long tail opportunities for site owners. They suggest determining what entities you most want your site to rank for and then optimizing for the long tail queries within those entities. For instance, if your site is about cars, you’ll want to optimize for the car brands (VW, Volvo, etc.) but also car-related categories such as dealers, used, and for sale. That will give you additional opportunities to rank on the first page of results.
