Google Chrome Extensions beta went live today , launching with more than 300 extensions available.
If you’ve been using Firefox like me, then you’ve probably held off on converting to Google Chrome because you’ve come to love all of the great plugins Firefox has to offer. My favorite Firefox plugin is Xmarks which allows you to synchronize bookmarks on multiple computers, and also keeps a copy of your bookmarks in the cloud so you can access them anywhere by logging into Xmarks online. Now, with the announcement of extensions, Xmarks is available on Chrome! To view all available extensions, visit the Google Chrome extension page.
Here’s what Google had to say on their official Chrome blog:
“Today, we’re really happy to release a beta of extensions that begins to deliver on our initial vision. Extensions are as easy to create as webpages. Users can install and uninstall them quickly without restart, and extensions have a great polished look that fits in with Google Chrome’s minimalist aesthetic. When developers upload an extension it is available to users immediately, with limited restrictions and manual reviews only in a few situations.”
It’s still too early for me to commit to making the switch to Chrome but with all the exciting things Google has to offer, I’ll definitely be giving it a serious look.
What do you think of this new development for Google Chrome?
