Writing Effective Teaser Text

write effective teaser text Writing Effective Teaser TextIf you want to increase your online following, you need to capture the attention of your audience with well written, effective teaser text. Your words need to grab the reader and give them a clear idea of what you’re writing about and why they need to read more.

In an age where information is everywhere, the articles that get noticed resonate with the person reading it. How many Twitter updates catch your eye when you’re scanning information? Probably a very small percentage. To get your target audience to continue reading, write  your message in a way that compels them to click on the link in their RSS reader or on your Twitter page.

Six tips on writing effective teaser text:

  1. Be direct! Let your readers know what they can expect from your blog.
  2. Write catchy titles that grab the attention of your reader right away and clearly describe the topic of your post.
  3. Avoid wordiness. Cut to the chase with your blog titles and teasers.
  4. Understand your audience. Think about your website’s demographic and put yourself in their shoes. If you can see your blog through your reader’s eyes, you can write in a way that they’ll connect with.
  5. Leave your reader wanting more. Give them a hook that makes them want to stay and read the next paragraph.
  6. Look at the best bloggers in your industry. How are they writing their teasers & what do they do to draw you in?
